A longstanding leader in women’s health initiatives, UB is committed to research, education, clinical care and outreach to address the diverse health issues affecting women at all stages of their lives.

From Specialized Health Care to Caregiving and Beyond

Women require specialized care for pregnancy, reproductive health and menopause. UB researchers have long collaborated with the National Institutes of Health on strategies for preventing heart disease, breast and colorectal cancer, and osteoporotic fractures in postmenopausal women. The decades-long has given UB an opportunity to be at the forefront of studies on women's health across the lifespan. This work began with a birth cohort study examining connections between women’s prenatal health and generational health disparities and continues to expand with oral microbiome research offering links to potential interventions that prevent high blood pressure in older women.

In addition, UB’s global health initiatives address culturally competent health care in relation to the diverse experiences of women worldwide, with much attention given to gender-based barriers to health equity, including women’s familial obligations, reproductive health politics and intimate partner violence.
