Members of the Interprofessional Practice and Education Leadership team presented on the IPE Pathway at UB. The team highlighted specific opportunities for students to complete the IPE Digital Badge and Micro credentialing pathway through community service and research that allows them to graduate with distinction and enhance career prospects after UB.
Attendees joined us for our VPHS Collaboration Conversation, "Iatrogenic substance use disorder (SUD) in chronic pain patients. Addiction medicine or chronic pain medicine?" presented by Pratibha Bansal, MD. This presentation discussed the medical education for clinicians to develop clinical skills needed to prevent iatrogenic substance use disorders (SUD) among their panel of patients and to manage patients who have developed SUD.

Presentation by Nikki Kmicinski, CEO, Western New York Integrated Care Collaborative (WNYICC), a not-for-profit Community Care Hub for a network of 70+ regional community-based organizations. WNYICC is the administrative backbone agency for this network and was developed to make partnering between CBOs and health care or other funding partners easy and efficient. WNYICC's Executive Director shared information on the CBO network members and how UB can partner with our network for grants and research.
Dr. Jessica Thomas is responsible for directing HEDIS, QARR, NCQA, and Medicare Stars initiatives at Independent Health, which include collaboration among population health, risk, and medical management, care management and network providers to drive innovative initiatives to improve quality outcomes and ensure member satisfactions. Kelly Marie Wofford, MS, is the Director of the Erie County Office of Health Equity. Under her leadership, she advances the health of our community and also assesses our current circumstances and challenges. Director Wofford presented her team's Health Equity Report in Erie County.
This presentation discussed the UB Startup and Innovation Collaboratory powered by Blackstone Launchpad (CoLab) and how collaborating with the CoLab can benefit both faculty and students. Innovation skills and an entrepreneurial mindset are vital in research, the classroom, and applied healthcare settings. The CoLab has proven and adaptable programming that can create valuable experiences for all involved.
Dr. Jinjun Xiong, a computer scientist who specializes in using artificial intelligence for social good, discussed the many strengths of his unit at UB and the ways he envisions being able to partner with the health sciences.
