FAQ

Q: Why is on-campus housing so limited this year?

A: We’ve experienced a record number of housing applications this year, particularly from incoming first-year students. Unfortunately, demand has outpaced the number of available on-campus spaces. Please know that we are actively working with our university partners to identify every possible space and manage assignments as efficiently as we can. Our top priority is to house as many students as possible, and we will continue to provide updates as space becomes available.

Q: If I submitted my housing application on time, will I still receive housing for the fall?

A: Yes, if you submitted your application before the May 12 deadline, you will receive housing for the Fall 2025 semester. However, due to high demand, we may not be able to assign your specific space or building immediately. Your assignment will come in August.

Q: I’m a new student and currently on the waitlist for on-campus housing. What does that mean for me?

A: Being on the waitlist means that your housing application was submitted after the deadline, and at this time, all available on-campus spaces are full. You’re in line to receive a housing offer only if space becomes available and offers will be extended with priority being new out of town first-year students. While we’re doing everything we can to accommodate students, there is no guarantee that we’ll be able to offer you a space before the fall semester begins. For that reason, we strongly encourage all waitlisted students to begin exploring off-campus housing options as a backup plan.

Q: Will being on the waitlist affect my ability to register for classes?

A: No. Your housing status does not have an impact on your academic registration. You can still attend all required events, register for classes, and start the semester fully engaged with the UB experience.

Q: How will I know if a space becomes available for me?

A: If a housing space opens up, we will contact you via your UB email account with an offer. We’re assigning spaces in the order applications were received. Be sure to check your email regularly, including your junk/spam folder.

Q: What is Flexi-Bull Housing (overcapacity)?

A: Flexi-Bull Housing is a temporary housing arrangement where more students are assigned to a room than was originally designed for (double to triple, triple to quad, etc.). Flexi-Bull assignments are temporary, and students are typically relocated to permanent spaces as they become available. Click here for more information.

Q: What furniture is included in Flexi-Bull Housing (overcapacity) spaces?

A: Each student in a Flexi-Bull Housing space receives a full furniture setup similar to standard rooms, including a bed, desk, dresser/wardrobe and study chair.

Q: Will I receive a discount for living in a Flexi-Bull Housing (overcapacity) space with an extra roommate for the fall semester?

A: Yes. We appreciate your understanding as we accommodate additional students. If you are assigned an extra roommate in Flexi-Bull Housing, you will receive a 20% discount on your nightly room charges for as long as that student remains in your room. This discount will be automatically applied to your student account after the room has gone back to the design capacity.

Q: If I get placed in a Flexi-Bull Housing (overcapacity) room, can I request a move later?

A: Yes. Students in Flexi-Bull Housing will have the opportunity to request a room change once permanent spaces become available. These moves typically occur during the first few weeks of the semester but can last longer, and we’ll keep you updated along the way.

Q: If I get an off-campus lease, can I still accept on-campus housing if it becomes available later?

A: Yes, but be aware that once you sign a lease, you may be financially responsible for both agreements if you later accept on-campus housing. We recommend reviewing lease terms carefully and contacting our office if you have questions.

Q: Can I cancel my housing application if I find off-campus housing?

A: It depends on your application status:

  1. If you are a timely applicant (you applied by the May 12 deadline), you cannot cancel your application.
  2. If you are currently on the housing waitlist, you may cancel your application, but cancellation fees may apply depending on the timing of your request.

Q: What support is available to me if I live off campus for the spring semester?

A: All UB students—whether living on or off campus—have full access to academic support, campus events, and student services. If you begin the year off campus and housing opens up later, we’ll reach out directly. In the meantime, we’ll make sure you stay connected and supported.
