Program Overview

Transfer Summer Orientation is an important experience at the beginning of your UB journey. Your orientation will get you started with understanding academic responsibilities, planning for out-of-classroom experiences and meeting other UB students. You'll also learn about UB's campuses and the many resources available to you as a new student.

Program Details

U.S. Students International Students

Your orientation program consists of required Online Modules and an optional on-campus program to prepare for your successful start at UB.

You will register for the program on Step 1: Complete the Advisement and Orientation Form

SUMMER ORIENTATION INCLUDES

Online Modules

  • The Online Modules cover the basics about being new to UB through a series of videos, written text and un-timed quizzes. You will complete virtually and asynchronously (on your own time and at your own pace).
  • You are required to complete the Online Modules. 
  • We will email your UB email with instructions for accessing the Online Modules after you submit your Advisement and Orientation form, beginning June 2. Plan at least 2 hours to complete.

  • Available June 2 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) 
  • Due prior to your on campus program or July 31 at 5:00 p.m., whichever is first

On-Campus Program

We encourage you to attend a one-day, on-campus orientation program. 

The on-campus program will help you get to know your new university, including academic expectations and helpful on-campus resources. You will also connect with other new students and hear from current students.

How to Get to UB

Check-in takes place in the Student Union on the University at Buffalo's North Campus. Plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to receive program materials, including a printed schedule.

If you plan to arrive by UB bus/shuttle, view the schedule for "North Campus Shuttle" and pick up the shuttle at your location to arrive to the Lee Loop.

If you plan to drive to UB, you may park at the Jarvis B Lot (enter 'Jarvis B Lot, University at Buffalo' in your GPS or navigational tool, or ). Your license plate is your parking pass;  (requires UBIT name/password) before your first trip to campus.

Tasks to Complete Before Summer Orientation

The New Student Checklist overviews many of the tasks you need to complete to successfully begin at UB. Take action on the items below before you complete your Summer Orientation. 

  • (on-campus residents) Select your room during your assigned appointment time between June 25 and July 1. Review your housing options and the selection process on the Campus Living (UB Housing) website
  •  (requires government issued ID). Submit your photo two weeks before your orientation date to receive your printed UB Card during program check-in. If you do not attend an on-campus Summer Orientation, submit your photo by July 31 and UB will mail your ID Card home.
  • Complete any to-do list items for financial aid located in your HUB Student Center (, requires UBIT name/password). 
  • Review billing dates on the Student Accounts websiteYour first payment may be due before classes start. If you expect a financial aid refund, set up direct deposit to receive these funds faster.  and sign up in your HUB Student Center (, requires UBIT name/password).

Tasks to Complete After Summer Orientation

The New Student Checklist overviews many of the tasks you need to complete to successfully begin at UB. Take action on the items below after you complete your Summer Orientation. 

  • (on-campus residents) Prepare for living on campus. Select your move-in time through the . Use the Campus Living website to review packing lists, what to expect on new student move-in day, and more!
  • (off-campus residents) Prepare for commuting to campus. Plan extra time for your first trip to campus to navigate parking and/or wayfinding. Review UB's tips as you plan off-campus housing.
  • Complete part 1 of UB's online health/safety courses (Alcohol EDU and Sexual Assault Prevention); instructions will be sent to your UB email on August 1. Complete part 1 before arriving to campus. Learn more about both programs on the Health Promotion website.
  •  (requires UBIT name/password) if you plan to bring a car to campus. Make sure your plate is on record before your first trip to campus in August.   
  •  to order and pay for campus meals using your meal plan from the convenience of your phone.
  •  to receive UB's emergency text messages. 
  •  to turn your phone into a personal safety device on campus.
  • Download your UBLinked Event Pass to your phone wallet or camera roll to check in to events at UB.
  • Check your UB email in August. We'll send you details about Step 5: Welcome Weekend, including your assigned schedule and any required sessions.

We highly encourage you to attend events during Welcome Weekend to connect with other UB students (including other transfer students!), get familiar with campus, and learn more about campus resources that are most important to you. 

Review the website to know what to attend during Welcome Weekend as a new transfer student. Your detailed schedule will be sent to your UB email in August.
