EDI provides training on topics related to discrimination or harassment, including:
Discrimination Overview: Defines discrimination and harassment, who is affected, how to identify discrimination, examples of discrimination and harassment, and how to report discrimination and harassment.
Combined Compliance Training for Employees: Starting in 2025, EDI is offering live open Zoom sessions for the University community. This 60-minute training will encompass the mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention and SUNY Title VI trainings. It also includes a brief overview of Accessibility and Accommodations. EDI will not be offering individual department or unit sessions unless there is a minimum of 100 attendees.
Sexual Harassment Prevention for Students: This session provides students with information about their rights to a harassment-free environment. Topics include definitions of sexual harassment, how to respond to sexual harassment, how to report sexual harassment, and examples of harassing conduct. EDI can customize this training for clinical environments and placement experiences.
Sexual Violence Prevention: Defines sexual violence, affirmative consent, prohibited conduct, options for reporting, available supportive measures, and how UB addresses reports of sexual violence.
Disability Accommodations: Explains the obligation to accommodate disabilities under applicable laws and policies, how individuals may request accommodations, what faculty and supervisors should do if they receive an accommodation request, tips for engaging in the interactive process and what to do if an accommodation request interferes with essential work or academic requirements.
Religious Accommodations: Explains the obligation to provide religious accommodations, commonly-requested accommodations, what faculty and supervisors should do if they receive an accommodation request, and what to do if an accommodation request interferes with essential work or academic requirements.
LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Transgender Accommodations: Provides a framework of awareness of homophobia and transphobia, how to support the LGBTQ+ community, available UB services and support, and strategies for promoting inclusion.
Recruiting for Diversity: Addresses creating an inclusive job description, building a diverse application pool, best practices for conducting interviews, combatting unconscious bias, and understanding legal requirements including avoiding prohibited questions.
Cultural Competence: Moving from Compliance to Inclusion: Defines cultural competence, identifies barriers to cultural competence such as unconscious bias, stereotyping and microaggressions, and discusses strategies to interact respectfully across differences.
Respect and Civility: Discusses the importance of creating a civil, respectful workplace and classroom, and strategies that everyone can employ to foster a more respectful work or academic environment.
Child Protection: Explains the obligations under UB’s Child Protection Policy to respond to and report suspected inappropriate conduct or abuse toward children under 17 on campus or in UB programs and activities. This program also provides guidance about whether a program also falls under SUNY’s Child Protection Policy.
Ableism: Defines ableism, how ableist attitudes are detrimental to people with disabilities, and how to ensure our actions, communications, and decisions are inclusive for people with disabilities.
EDI Overview: Describes the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; compliance areas including discrimination, harassment, accommodations and accessibility; and the process for reporting discrimination and harassment.
Accessible Digital Content: Explains the importance of digital accessibility, how to create accessible documents, website and other content, and the steps you should take when purchasing software or other digital products to ensure they can be accessed by people with disabilities.
Other: Custom-created content to meet the needs of a unit or to address specific needs of a unit.
