The goal of the project is to transform the community into a great place to live, work, play and raise a family.
The Eastside Neighborhood Transformation Project is a bold, community-driven initiative focused on empowering residents to lead and control the development of their own neighborhoods. It proposes the creation of a neighborhood council composed of democratically elected residents and appointed leaders from block clubs, community organizations, and local businesses. Breaking away from the traditional top-down approach, the project emphasizes collective ownership, cooperative housing models, and participatory democracy to address long-standing racial and economic disparities. By centering resident leadership and fostering community control, it aims to transform living conditions, uplift local economies, and rebuild neighborhoods in a way that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of East Buffalo’s Black and marginalized communities.
