Through Explore AI, CATT actively supports faculty by offering hands-on opportunities to engage with leading generative AI tools.

About the Initiative

Seeking to partner with the university’s units and departments, it is our objective to provide instructors with a gateway into the world of generative AI so that they might be better prepared to understand how such technologies relate to various aspects of their own teaching.

Please feel free to reach out to ubcatt@buffalo.edu should you have any questions or wish to potentially partner with CATT.

Explore AI Workshops

Explore AI workshops provide hands-on opportunities for UB instructors and staff to experiment with generative AI tools and explore their potential in teaching, learning, and professional practice. Each session focuses on a specific theme or challenge, offering practical strategies, guided activities, and collaborative discussions to help participants develop confidence and creativity in using AI effectively.

Explore AI: Creating and Training Course Chatbots

Wednesday, July 23 | 10:00 am - 11:00 am | Silverman Library, Room 305 | Zoom TBD

facilitated by Rachael J. Webb, Ph.D.

Join us for a hands-on session where you'll learn how to design a custom chatbot tailored to your course. We'll walk through the creation process, highlight subscription options and requirements, and demonstrate what these chatbots can—and cannot—do to support teaching and learning. You'll explore practical use cases such as answering student FAQs, providing resource links, and reinforcing course content. Attendees will also have time to build and train their own chatbot during the session using CATT’s iPads.

Explore AI: Choosing the Right AI Chatbot for Teaching and Learning

Wednesday, August 6 | 10:00 am - 11:00 am | Silverman Library, Room 305

facilitated by Rachael J. Webb, Ph.D.

Curious about which AI tool best supports your teaching and learning goals? In this session, we'll compare leading generative AI platforms—ChatGPT (OpenAI), CoPilot (Microsoft), Gemini and Notebook LM (Google), and Claude (Anthropic)—highlighting key differences in functionality and use cases. We'll also touch on creative tools like Midjourney and DALL·E for image generation, and practical aids like Grammarly for language support. By the end, you’ll be better equipped to evaluate and select the AI tools that align with your instructional needs.
