Where theory meets practice—and you make the connections.

The Arts Management program curriculum is built around the idea that learning in arts management should be cumulative, connected and grounded in both theory and practice. You’ll start with foundational courses that give you the tools to think critically, then build on that knowledge in each class as you move toward your thesis or final project.

The Big Picture

You won’t just take classes. You’ll be part of a conversation—about the arts, public impact and leadership in a changing world.

Our goal is to shape independent, creative leaders who understand how today’s arts ecosystems work—and aren’t afraid to reimagine how they could be better. We prepare you to support artists and audiences alike, in ways that are smart, strategic and socially engaged.

Internships/Practicums

Internships are a core part of your UB experience. In addition to our required fieldwork course, we strongly encourage students to pursue additional hands-on experience in arts organizations.

The Program offers Fieldwork in Arts Management, but we encourage students to find additional internships and practical experiences outside of the Program. Consult with the Program to find an internship placement that is right for you.

International Students

U.S. law requires international students to be enrolled in coursework (via CPT or OPT) to take on internships. UB’s International Student Services can guide you through the CPT/OPT process, and our program offers credit-bearing support through the "Practicum Support" course.
