New York State Residency

  • To qualify for in-state tuition, students must prove they have established a permanent and principal home (domicile) in New York State for at least 12 months prior to the semester. 
  • Simply living in New York to attend college does not establish residency.
  • Students initially classified as non-residents can submit a Residency Application with supporting documents to be reconsidered. 
  • International students currently living in New York State on a visa other than F-1 or J-1 may qualify as New York State residents.
