Some 6,435 students are candidates to receive 6,905 degrees and certificates during UB’s 2025 commencement ceremonies being held Friday through May 18.

Commencement season begins Friday with the ceremony for students graduating from the MD program in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and from the School of Dental Medicine.

The Jacobs School’s ceremony, its 179th annual commencement ceremony, will take place at 1 p.m. in the Center for the Arts. Jeremy M. Jacobs Sr., chair emeritus of the UB Council, will receive the Charles M. Norton Medal, UB’s highest honor, during the ceremony.

The School of Dental Medicine’s commencement ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. in the Center for the Arts.

The remainder of the commencement schedule:

• School of Public Health and Health Professions: 5 p.m., May 15, Alumni Arena.
• Graduate School of Education: 9 a.m., May 16, Alumni Arena. X. Christine Wang, professor of learning and instruction, senior associate dean for interdisciplinary research and director of the Fisher-Price Endowed Early Childhood Research Center in GSE, will receive the President's Medal.
• School of Nursing: 9 a.m., May 16, Center for the Arts.
• School of Management (undergraduate): 1 p.m., May 16, Alumni Arena.
• College of Arts and Sciences (graduate): 1 p.m., May 16, Center for the Arts. Luis A. Colón, SUNY Distinguished Professor and A. Conger Goodyear Professor in the Department of Chemistry, will receive the UB President’s Medal.
• School of Management (graduate): 5 p.m., May 16, Alumni Arena. William J. Maggio, managing partner of the private equity firm Lorraine Capital, will receive the President’s Medal.
• School of Architecture and Planning: 5 p.m., May 16, Center for the Arts.
• School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (graduate 1): 9 a.m., May 17, Alumni Arena.
• School of Social Work: 9 a.m., May 17, Center for the Arts.
• School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (graduate 2): 1 p.m., May 17, Alumni Arena.
• School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences: 1 p.m., May 17, Center for the Arts.

• Veteran Cord Celebration, a special honor cord celebration, open to all, recognizing veteran and military-connected graduates who have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate/professional degree from UB: 3 p.m., May 1, Buffalo Room, 10 Capen Hall.
• Lavender Celebration, a university-wide celebration, open to all, centered around UB's LBGTQ+ community from all majors, levels of education, programs and backgrounds: 3 p.m., May 9, Drama Theatre, Center for the Arts.
• ALANA Celebration, a university-wide celebration, open to all, centering around the shared experiences of historically racially underrepresented cultures: 2 p.m., May 15, Center for the Arts.
