Cross-disciplinary research in structural biology is the focus of UB’s first Western New York Structural Biology Symposium, to be held Aug. 6 at the UB-Hauptman-Woodward Research Institute (UB-HWI), 700 Ellicott St., Buffalo.
Attendees should register for the free symposium by July 30; more information is available at this .
The organizers say the symposium provides a chance to connect experts from distinct, yet complementary fields.
“By fostering interactions among scientists in diverse areas of research, such as structural biology, molecular biophysics, cell biology, drug discovery and more, this event seeks to catalyze cross-disciplinary partnerships across the Western New York region and advance interdisciplinary discoveries,” says Monica Pillon, assistant professor of structural biology, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB.
Pillon is a scientific organizer of the conference, along with Makaía Papasergi-Scott of the University of Rochester Medical Center.
With HWI officially joining UB earlier this year, Pillon says it made sense to hold a symposium where researchers from various disciplines and institutions could come together to share their work.
“As the first symposium of its kind since HWI merged with UB, this event will highlight structural biology as a bridge across disciplines, providing important insight from atoms to cells,” she explains.
The event is organized by the Western New York Structural Biology Collaborative (WNYSBC), an initiative aimed at fostering a regional ecosystem of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
