    Campus Dining and Shops (CDS) has been awarded the 2025 NACUFS Silver Award for Waste Reduction, recognizing its innovative sustainability initiatives, including food recovery, composting, and student-led waste education that contribute to UB’s broader climate action and zero-waste goals.

    Steven and Debra Shepsman, UB alumni and donors, have funded the Shepsman Family Professorship at the School of Management, supported by a New York State endowment match—to advance research and education on the business strategies essential for addressing climate change and fostering long-term sustainability.

  • Unearthing the intricate world of earthworms
    5/13/25

    Nick Henshue, associate teaching professor of ecology in the College of Arts and Sciences and co-director of the EarthEd Institute, has made it his life’s work to better understand the impact of earthworms on various ecosystems. Henshue considers his passion for teaching his superpower. 

  • Carbon Reduction Challenge shows why sustainability is good for business
    5/9/25

    Students from the Carbon Reduction Challenge course, instructed by Ryan McPhereson and Elizabeth Thomas, presented their climate action plan for local clients to provide strategies to decrease their overall carbon footprint.
