Whitney K. Taylor

Whitney K. Taylor, The Baldy Center Mid-Career Fellow, Fall 2025, is an associate professor of Political Science at San Francisco State University. Taylor is the author of (which won the 2023 International Forum on the Future of Constitutionalism Book Prize). She is co-author of and with Cambridge University Press, as well as articles on legal mobilization, legal consciousness, access to justice, and comparative constitutionalism.

While in residence at The Baldy Center, Taylor will be working on a project that examines the politics of contemporary local prosecution in the United States. Prosecutors have come to the forefront of nationally-important issues, ranging from criminal justice reform to reproductive rights to the very functioning of democratic elections. Today, they have both unprecedented power, but they also face unprecedented backlash from other elected officials, the media, and the general public. Taylor's project focuses on how prosecutors understand their role and the political landscape they find themselves in, as well the impact of the threat of removal on their work.
